Venda do jogo «Manhunt 2» suspensa em Portugal


A Infocapital suspendeu a distribuição do vídeojogo «Manhunt 2» em Portugal para as plataformas Wii e Playstation.A importadora do jogo, previamente proibido na Grã-Bretanha e na Irlanda, garantiu que «necessita de tempo para rever as suas opções», depois de a British Board of Film Classification e a Entertainment Software Rating Board, entidades que classificam os filmes e jogos de vídeo no Reino Unido, terem proibido o «Manhunt 2», que devia ser lançado no passado dia 10 de Julho.
Strauss Zelnick, um dos responsáveis, garantiu que ele próprio acabou por rever o jogo e sublinha que se «enquadra perfeitamente dentro do género do horror e era isso mesmo que se pretendia. Conferindo uma qualidade cinemática única e genuína ao entretenimento interactivo. É também uma obra de arte», reforçou, numa posição que a Infocapital subscreve.
Por seu lado, a Inspecção-Geral das Actividades Culturais (IGAC) assinalou que, quando foi distribuído no País o primeiro jogo desta série, intitulado «Manhunt», a classificação estabelecida foi para maiores de 18 anos.
Viriato Filipe, director de comunicação da *****, revelou à Lusa que «o Manhunt passou na IGAC mas esteve tremido», devido ao carácter violento da sequela, sublinhando ainda que «os anteriores jogos de vídeo da produtora não tiveram grande procura por parte do público da ***** e o Manhunt I permaneceu pouco tempo na loja».

Manhunt 2 gets US go ahead

Rockstar has announced that Manhunt 2 has finally been given a M rating in the US, clearing the way for an October release, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

The ESRB has re-rated the game following Rockstar's submission of a modified version of the original product, which in June was branded with an Adults Only stamp.

"Manhunt 2 is important to us, and we're glad it can finally be appreciated as a gaming experience," said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games.

"We love the horror genre. Manhunt 2 is a powerful piece of interactive story telling that is a unique video game experience. We think horror fans will love it."

After the game was given the AO rating in the US, Nintendo and Sony both refused to let the game appear on their consoles.

The game will now appear on October 31 in North America.

Manhunt 2 was also effectively banned in the UK by the BBFC after it refused to allow the game to go on sale.

E não é que os 'Jack Thompson's' e companhias ganharam? Da minha parte, assim, não comprarei o jogo, pelo menos enquanto estiver a 'full-price'.

The whole timeframe [Halloween 2007] stinks to high heaven… Its gonna sell several times the number of copies than it probably deserves.

I think Rockstar deliberately made a more explicit cut, hoping to get an AO game. That way they could market an M rated version… I find the whole thing distasteful…

I wonder if they originally submitted an “edited” version, got an “M”, and then cranked it up a notch to see how far they could push the ESRB before getting an AO rating…

I’ve come to the conclusion that Rockstar and the ESRB having been playing us in a tag team publicity stunt… Add the Halloween release date and I firmly believe they’ve been yanking our chains all along

Theory 1: The whole things a scam! Manhunt 2’s content hasn’t changed at all. Take-Two and the ESRB are in cahoots to placate the industry’s critics.

Theory 2: Rockstar did something simple but drastic like fading to black during the killings.

Theory 3: There was only one kill or sexual situation that earned the game an AO in the first place. Maybe all Rockstar had to do was remove the testicle trauma or put some underwear on a bordello girl.

Theory 4: Rockstar intentionally put in some truly over the top and obnoxious sex and/or violence that they never intended to have in the game. It was included solely to have something to cut out when the ESRB balked.

ESRB Refuses to Detail Manhunt 2 Re-rate
Despite the demands of Calif. State Sen. Leland Yee, the Entertainment Software Rating Board said it would not disclose why it re-rated Manhunt 2 from an AO to an M.

“Publishers submit game content to the ESRB on a confidential basis. It is simply not our place to reveal specific details about the content we have reviewed, particularly when it involves a product yet to be released. What can be said is that the changes that were made to the game, including the depictions themselves and the context in which those depictions were presented, were sufficient to warrant the assignment of an M (Mature 17+) rating by our raters.” - ESRB president Patricia Vance

Dizer que o ERSB estava "na cama" com a Rockstar tira-lhes a credibilidade toda logo, apesar das duas últimas teorias serem prováveis. Se é nojento ou não usar estas práticas para publicidade, hey, já não é a primeira vez que se usa controvérsia para publicitar um jogo, e então a Rockstar é mestre a fazer isso...

Já acabavam com esta novela toda, e mostravam masé previews ou assim...

Yee: What is ESRB trying to hide?

After ESRB president Patricia Vance released her statement standing by ESRB's decision to re-rate the controversial Manhunt 2 to Mature, California senator Leland Yee had this to ask: "What is ESRB trying to hide?"

Yee recently questioned ESRB's move to grant Rockstar's Manhunt 2 (for Wii, PSP and PS2) its much-desired M rating, suspicious about what he apparently deems as a shady dealing between ESRB and Rockstar.

To be more specific, what upset Yee was that the ratings board refused to disclose the details why they changed their minds and took off Manhunt 2's previous Adults Only rating, letting it slip by with M for Mature.

It should be noted at this point that Vance already explained the reason behind ESRB's secrecy: game content is confidential, especially if the game in question is not yet released. Simply put, ESRB does not have the right to disclose such details.

It looks like the Manhunt 2 controversy just won't die down, at least not yet. With the way things are going, Manhunt 2 may just be the tip of the iceberg, and the attention may soon shift to yet another game. What do gamers think? What do you think? Boas noticias para quem quer jogar a versao original.

O muito polémico jogo da Rockstar vai ser lançado na Holanda, na sua forma original e com a classificação “para maiores de 16 anos”.
Numa carta escrita ao parlamento holandês, o Ministro da Justiça fez a seguinte declaração:
“A presente lei assenta no principio que todos os adultos são capazes de decidir por si próprios quais os jogos que querem jogar, a não ser que contenham conteúdo considerado ilegal.”
Nem mais!
No que toca a datas de lançamento, nada foi avançado. Quanto ao nosso país, aguardam-se notícias para brevemente.
