turn-by-turn GPS no iPhone

Já foi falado por alto a possibilidade de vir a haver software GPS turn-by-turn no iPhone, contudo nada em concreto foi dito, como tal resolvi ir desenterrar algo que li aquando do anúncio deste iPhone 3G para que possa tentar esclarecer a viabilidade de a apple permitir tal software no seu dispositivo.

Como tal aqui vai o documento.


E para apimentar um pouco as coisas, uma "statement" do porta-voz da apple que trás alguma controvérsia.

Os entraves colocados pela Apple à comercialização deste tipo de aplicações leva-me a pensar que ela própria está a desenvolver um software turn-by-turn em colaboração com outra empresa, provavelmente com a Google.

Regarding whether the aGPS requires network access:

Most of the point of having TomTom is that the maps are on the device and you can still get directions when you have no cell phone signal.

Due to this, the TomTom announcement would lead me to believe that the aGPS in the iPhone will work without a cell (GSM, 3G, or otherwise) signal.

Se o do tomtom não fosse assim era quase igual ao da google em termos de dependencias

Logo a seguir a essa noticia veio um dia depois um "desmentido" do próprio porta-voz da tomtom, como é visível no primeiro post.

As if the iPhone 3G launch could really have any more misinformation floating around, we've got yet another tidbit that needs clarification. Shortly after Apple's second iPhone was announced, out flew a report from Reuters suggesting that TomTom already had iPhone navigation software ready to go. French site Mac Generation was able to get ahold of TomTom spokesperson Yann Lafargue, and here's the gist of what he had to say. First off, the aforementioned Reuters statement was said to be inaccurate, though he did affirm that an iPhone version of the software was running in the labs and working "pretty well." Unfortunately, the question of "will you guys ship this for the iPhone?" was answered with a "We don't know" style response, but he did clarify that the questionable SDK verbiage we saw wasn't an obstacle at all. Isto é, eles têm o software a correr em laboratório e bem, mas não sabem se o vão comercializar. A questão é, a apple é detentora de tudo o que seja feito com o seu SDK, eles é que decidem se uma aplicação é "legível" para entrar na App Store.

Claro que todos sabemos que não está disponível. Mas que eles já o tem isso não desmentem (entre aspas) como dizes.
