Sure, Sony may be happy that they’re now able to include rumble with their Sixaxis, but is too little too late as far as the rest of the industry is concerned? Surely not for everyone, but Capcom doesn’t seem too impressed. Capcom’s head of R&D (the source doesn’t say if it was Haruhiro Tsujimoto, COO in charge of R&D or Nobuyuki Matsushima, Deputy Head of R&D) slammed Sony’s Sixaxis controller, vowing to not use the motion-sensing capabilities of the Sixaxis because they believe that Sony only adding the motion sensing capabilities to copy Nintendo as opposed to trying to genuinely innovate. No word on if he said anything about the soon to be included rumble feature but I would assume that they’d have to use that. Isn’t programming for rumble embedded in the DNA of every game developer by now? Well, except for the first gen PS3 titles, but the PS3 devs will be getting their rumble soon enough.
If this is true, (we’re trying to get an online copy of the video for all to see) this is a pretty harsh step as a mean to criticize a company for copy catting. I’m not sure if this is entirely justified but it is one way to visibly voice your disappointment. No matter what anyone says, I think it was pretty obvious that Sony did include the motion sensing capabilities so that they weren’t one upped by Nintendo, but this is business and they have to either sink or swim. At what point though do you try to out-innovate your competition instead of just try to keep up with them?
