If you've been playing Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy a lot lately, you might have noticed that the collection of games contained therein feel ever so slightly different to how they used to. Now developer Vicarious Visions has admitted that the Crash Bandicoot remakes are indeed harder than the original games were on PSone, particularly the first game.
"There are a few subtle differences in Crash Bandicoot," Activision's Editorial Manager Kevin Kelly confirmed in a
blog post. "Chief among these being the fact that you fall more quickly upon release of the X button than you did in the original first game... certain jumps require more precision than the originals".
Using Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped as a starting point, the studio then went back and tweaked the handling of each game, ensuring they each handle differently. As Kelly notes, in the first Crash Bandicoot, the jumping arc is speedier than usual so you land quicker, while Crash's hitbox is pill-shaped, making it a little easier to slip off edges.
"An increased precision is now required in the first game, which makes the gameplay experience different," Kelly added. "Particularly if you are a new player, you may want to start with the second and third games first, and then come back to try Crash Bandicoot after you've had more practice. For those of you who played the originals and acquired a fair amount of muscle memory, re-learning the handling in our game may present an additional challenge you weren't expecting. But we're sure you're up to the task."
Despite these slight changes, the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy is still brilliant, even if it is pretty tough.
