• A 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU (~6x performance)
• 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM (2x memory)
• Complete compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1

Because it has an ARMv7 processor, it can run the full range of ARM GNU/Linux distributions, including Snappy Ubuntu Core, as well as Microsoft Windows 10.

Three years after the launch of the Raspberry Pi, the vendor is launching a second-generation model that comes with much better hardware. The Raspberry Pi 2 offers a quad-core CPU clocked at 900 MHz, GPU clocked at 250 MHz and 1 GB RAM, all for just $35. The device can also run a customized version of Windows 10, and will be available for free to the maker community involved in Microsoft's IoT efforts later this year.

The CPU is significantly more powerful from the single-core 700 MHz processor featured in the first-gen model. The built-in GPU can decode full-HD at 30 fps, and comes with a h.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec. The number of USB ports have been increased to four (from two), and other connectivity includes HDMI (video out), microSD, 100 ***** Ethernet port and 3.5 mm audio jack.

The architecture has also seen an increment from ARMv6 to ARMv7, which allows the Raspberry Pi 2 to run full-fledged operating systems like Windows. Over the years, the Raspberry Pi has helped children learn to code and has powered many homebrew projects around the world, but some users have often lamented at the lack Windows support. Luckily, now that the Raspberry Pi 2 is here, that's all about to change. Microsoft has announced that it will support the Raspberry Pi Foundation's latest board, making a specialized version of its Windows 10 operating system available to the wider Pi community for free via its Windows Developer Program for IoT (Internet of Things).

Microsoft says that Windows 10 will be made available "later this year," offering it to "Makers" in the same way it delivered Windows builds for developers tinkering with Intel's Galileo board. The key thing here is price: tinkerers can grab the new ARMv7 board, which is said to deliver at least six times the performance of the old Model B+, for just $35 and begin building their own home automation tools. Microsoft says it will share more details on what its new version of Windows 10 can do in "the coming months", but it shouldn't mean that you wait until then before buying one.

Os antigos fazem o mesmo( tirando o windows 10), apenas mais lento.

Bem, esta notícia fez-me ganhar o dia.

Tenho um projecto pessoal a decorrer com um Raspberry Pi B e sinto falta de um pouco mais de poder de processamento. Este vai ser perfeito para o efeito. Além disso, o XBMC que já trabalhava bem no anterior, neste deve voar literalmente.

É um mini-PC. Podes fazer o que te der na telha como por exemplo:

- Web Server;
- Cloud pessoal;
- Media Center;
- Servidor de ficheiros;
- Consola (Emuladores).

A imaginação é o limite.

Por acaso também vai ser uma das compras que irei fazer, espero bem que com este upgrade o phpmyadmin+mysql consiga ter um melhor desempenho.

Tenho um a trabalhar 24 horas por dia desde Setembro do ano passado e porta-se lindamente. Nunca o apanhei offline uma única vez e e estou deveras satisfeito com o seu desempenho.
