Display-keyboard heading for production in 2006
July 20, 2005 - 16:22 EST
Russian design studio Art Lebedev said that its Optimus product, a keyboard that integrates a LCD display in every, is likely to become commercially available sometime in 2006. There are few details available at this time, but, according to the developer, the device will be OS-independent, support any language and key layout and integrate programmable keys. The key screen technology will be OLED-based; each key will support graphics animations. A programming kit will be offered as open sources SDK, Art Lebedev said.
Since the Optimus is in an early pre-production phase there is little information on possible pricing. The developers however said they aim for a price "less than a good mobile phone." (THG)
